Are you a decarbonization specialist aiming to use your skills to help build a fast-growing sustainability and climate change practice in a global professional services firm? You'll be working as part of a visible, dedicated team to design and deliver a range of climate-related engagements for our high-profile clients. The role would suit candidates that want to answer big questions about climate risk, climate strategy and decarbonization.

Work you'll do

As a Decarbonization Manager, you will work with our Sustainability and KPI services team of specialists focused on in sustainability assurance, risk, measurement, and reporting. Our team advises companies on the evolving Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) trends and market forces, with a focus on enhancing internal processes for collecting, analyzing, measuring, and reporting non-financial information.

Your main responsibilities will include:

  • Lead the delivery of projects focused across various industries to global clients on:

o Decarbonization, net zero and science-based targets, energy transition, energy and carbon reporting and analytics

o Climate risk assessments and mitigation strategies

o Decarbonization pathway analysis including developing carbon abatement curves

  • Lead the development of decarbonization related tools

  • Using your in-depth knowledge of climate change and decarbonization to enable you to act in the capacity of 'trusted advisor' for senior client stakeholders

  • Holding and continuing to develop fluent knowledge of climate risk, decarbonization, and the latest developments in energy and carbon transition and climate scenarios

  • Educating and advising both internal and external stakeholders on climate change, translating complex information into understandable and actionable insight

  • Providing leadership and mentoring to junior team members and associate resources.

  • Working alongside others on climate change and sustainability matters and industries to provide expert insight on the impact and interactions of climate change on other sustainability areas

  • Acting in the capacity of 'engagement manager', taking ownership for all aspects of engagement delivery from scoping and team selection through to delivery, risk & quality management and budgetary control

  • Utilizing your subject matter knowledge to lead new business development opportunities and grow Deloitte's climate change proposition

  • Developing strong relationships with internal stakeholders across the firm

  • Providing leadership and mentoring to junior team members and others where required

  • Deal effectively with ambiguous and unstructured problems and situations

  • Move easily between big picture thinking and managing relevant detail

o Anticipate stakeholder needs, and develop and discuss potential solutions, even before the stakeholder realizes they are required

o Initiate and lead open conversations with teams, clients and stakeholders to build trust

o Travel up to 30% (While 20-40% of travel is a requirement of the role, due to COVID-19, non-essential travel has been suspended until further notice)

Qualifications

Required

  • Undergraduate degree in environmental or related science, engineering, or business education

  • 6+ years working experience in climate-related fields, which may include climate change mitigation, net zero strategies and transformation, decarbonization, climate adaptation and risk

  • Experience with GHG accounting including Scope 3 calculation, and science aligned target setting.

  • Experience in climate risk assessment, particularly quantitative approaches to measuring risk and scenario analysis AND/OR technical knowledge of net zero and decarbonization planning

  • Experience in professional services / consultancy in a client-facing capacity OR deep subject matter expertise, such as in decarbonization or energy transition

  • Experience in business development, leading teams and communicating technical subject matter to a non-technical audience

Preferred

  • Deep understanding of ESG-related standards and frameworks including the GHG Protocol, SASB, GRI, and TCFD

  • Excellent data analysis and visualization skills, comfortable working with large datasets, both in Excel and beyond. Experience using Tableau, ArcGIS, Python advantageous

  • Knowledge of decarbonization strategy, planning and solutions at the corporate, government department and regional levels

  • Understanding of the climate change policy and regulatory landscape as well as wider ESG reporting and disclosure landscape

  • Excellent written and oral business communication skills

  • Experience working independently on multiple assignments or engagements, even in a virtual environment

  • A high aptitude for identifying, establishing and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders.
