Job Details

We are seeking experienced Early Childhood Mental Health Consultants in various counties around Arizona to join Southwest Human Development’s (SWHD) Smart Support team to conduct mental health consultation services with a variety of early care and education providers, including preschool teachers, home-based and center-based care providers and home visiting program staff. Smart Support is committed to hiring a diverse team that will meet the needs of the providers we serve and is therefore seeking both Bilingual English/Spanish and Non-bilingual candidates. Mental Health Professionals will be working in the county they live or surrounding counties.

The overall objective of consultation services will be to collaborate with early care and education providers to enhance their understanding of and capacity to meet the behavioral/emotional/mental health needs of the ren ages birth to five years and their families.

Primary Duties:

  • Provide on site support at care centers within region.
  • Use a framework of promotion, prevention and early intervention to promote resilience, mental health and prevention of behavioral difficulties for those at risk.
  • Act as a resource regarding early hood development with an emphasis on emotional and behavioral health and the importance of the relationship between the participant and the and their family.
  • Complete assessment plans to support participants, ren, and families.
  • Provide observations and recommendations regarding the social/emotional environment to assist in identifying ren in need of support with behavioral, emotional or developmental concerns.
  • Develop written intervention strategies utilizing a team approach to assist staff in developing positive behavior support strategies and promote optimal social/emotional development.
  • Maintain required documentation of services provided, progress notes, plans, consents and other program documents
  • Collaborate with care providers, families, directors, managers, and other team members to build their knowledge and skills to support the needs of ren and families.
  • Provide group and individual training on overall social and emotional wellness including specific topics such as development, trauma-informed care, attachment, and self-care.
  • Partner with and support early care and education providers to support ongoing communication with parents regarding mental health, behavioral, or developmental concerns of their ren.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, Marriage and Family Therapy.
  • Experience working with ren ages birth to five and their families.
  • At least one year post master’s clinical experience is preferred.
  • Experience working in a classroom setting and/or consulting with teachers.
  • Knowledge of special education procedures and the special needs of young ren with disabilities and their families.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Windows applications.
  • Valid Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card preferred - OR - must qualify for a valid Arizona Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card.
  • Reliable transportation, valid driver’s license in good standing, and proof of current auto insurance is required.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish and non-bilingual candidates
